Kathy Kerber's Piano Studio

About Me

I began teaching several years ago, after being encouraged and mentored by a friend who is also a virtuoso pianist and has been a respected piano instructor in this area for many years. I do not hold a degree, though I formally studied piano as an adult for about a year and as a child for about a year.I continue to study independently.

Much of my knowledge has been and continues to be through experience.I studied two years of classical theory and composition in college, and also studied classical voice during that time. I have greatly benefited from the skills and generosity of many individuals along the way, and I strive to honor their gifts to me by teaching with passion and purpose.

I continue to work at developing my skills.  I direct the music and lead the song team at my church each week. I occasionally perform professionally, and am also a composer.  I have written over 30 vocal/piano songs in the past few years, and have also composed three piano solos ranging from beginning to intermediate level. My first piano piece available in print is titled "Silver Linings".  It is published by Sheet Music Plus, and had the distinction of being performed by my mentor at his Fall 2017 student recital. Prior to teaching piano, I educated our children from K-11.  Our youngest was awarded several scholarships including a full tuition waiver to SPSCC. He then graduated with honors from SPSCC, receiving an AAS and a proficiency certificate in computer science which tutoring at the college as well as at the high school DigiPen computer science program at New Market Skills Center.  He immediately landed a 3 month internship, which has now been extended twice, and he is pursuing enrollment at UW to continue studying in his field.

Our oldest is a gifted musician who is working full time as an oil change technician while studying music/video production.  He studied auto mechanics at New Market Skills Center, went on to get his GED from SPSCC, and has been writing, collaborating, recording, and performing with other musicians.
