I have been teaching for over fifteen years, and began after being encouraged and mentored by a friend who is both a respected piano instructor in this area, and a virtuoso pianist. I do not hold a degree, though I formally studied piano as a child and again as an adult. I continue to study independently,
I studied classical theory, voice, and composition in college, and my skills have increased with experience. On behalf of all those who patiently poured into me, I strive to honor their gift by teaching with passion and purpose.
I continue to develop my skills. I play the piano each week at church, and lead the song team. I occasionally perform professionally, and I have composed several piano solos and duets. I have written over 30 vocal/piano songs in the past few years, as well. My first piano piece available in print is titled "Silver Linings". It is published by Sheet Music Plus, and had the distinction of being performed by my mentor at his Fall 2017 student recital. I maintain a current business license in Washington state, and file taxes as a sole proprietor, and for the past several years, I've been a contracted community-based instructor or CBI for the Quilcene School Districts, providing piano lessons to students enrolled in their PEARL academic program.
In the past, I provided chord theory classes for students at Sunrise Beach School
I am working with students remotely in other states, as well, and recently became a vendor for Arizona's scholarship program providing online piano tutoring. I enjoy the challenge of new teaching environments, and Zoom piano lessons have been a wonderful addition to my studio.
I have a background check on file through the QSD at the Washington State Patrol.
Prior to teaching piano, I educated our children from K-11. Due to well-documented scope and sequence, a detailed transcript, and 98th percentile test results, our youngest was one of two young people awarded an official high school diploma from our local school district, after attending New Market Skills Center for his senior year. He then went on to receive several scholarships, including a full tuition waiver to SPSCC, and enough money to cover any and all expenses there. He graduated with honors from SPSCC, receiving an AAS and a proficiency certificate in computer science, all the while tutoring at the college and at the NMSC high school DigiPen computer science program. He is currently working full-time in the IT field.
Our oldest is a gifted musician who is a journeyman electrician, and continues to pursue his passion in music/video performance and production.
